After spending a few years in Australia, Sally and Chuck Mitchell returned to their Arlington home longing to recreate a seamless connection with the landscape that they had experienced living abroad. Working closely with them, we replaced a small enclosed porch with a cozy four-season lounge off the living room that incorporates a dining area. Stone flooring, expansive glass, and cedar finishes create a natural palette that blends the space with the outdoors. The roof tilts back to embrace views of magnificent white oak trees in the back yard. The adjacent landscape, designed by Sally, is framed by laurel hedges that reciprocates the intimate quality of the new addition.
