JHA worked with repeat clients to design a primary suite addition above the existing carport of their Falls Church home. An elongated, cantilevered design was developed, marrying with the existing character of the mid-century house. A deep focus on acoustic comfort led to a collaboration with consultant Bay Acoustics to evaluate wall, roof, and floor assemblies for sound attenuation of heavy traffic noise. Additional improvements to the thermal envelope were prioritized, with high performance windows planned for the addition and entire home. While the addition was put on hold, a smaller interior bath renovation and the existing window replacements undertaken in the interim.
